I don't HATE anyone, do you?

My Mother ingrained in my mind that the "HATE" word is too harsh a word to be a part of my vocabulary. There are very rare occassions when you will hear me use the word. Hate is something that we could do without on this planet. If you can find a way to remove it from your vocabulary and mind you will become a much better person overall.

When I was around five years old I got really upset with someone and was telling my Mother how much I HATED that person. She sat me down at the kitchen table, which is where we had a lot of heart to heart chats, and she begain to explain to me why "HATE" is such a harsh word.

When you "HATE" someone, you despise everything about them, not just the way they are, but the physical person they are, everything about them, including where they come from, and anything related to them. "HATE" is a very strong feeling to have, and you have to identify if you really feel "HATE" before you use that word.

She asked me why I thought I "HATED" this person and I explained. When I was done, she said, "Well, Rick, you don't HATE this person, you just don't like their ways. There is a big difference between HATE and not liking a person's ways."

Every since that conversation with my Mother, I have never really "HATED" anyone. I realize that I just don't like the way that some people are. When I don't like their ways, I just don't associate myself with them.

I believe that everyone has a right to their own feelings and being the best person they can be. If they choose to be jerks, that is their choice, it just means that I don't have to be around them.

It would be nice though to see a lot more LOVE in the world and less HATE. We are all on this planet together, so why can't we all get along, and agree to disagree once in a while?
